In Ecuador there are three ways to get a WhatsApp chatbot: an international platform you configure yourself (from $49/month), a local agency with monthly plans ($120 to $370/month) or a custom-built AI chatbot (from $400 setup + plans from $20/month). None is "the best" in the abstract: it depends on how many conversations you get, whether the bot needs to connect to your inventory or booking system, and whether someone on your team has time to set it up. This comparison puts real prices on the table — ours included — so you can decide with data.
One note before we start: prices are those published by each provider in September 2026, before VAT (15% in Ecuador), and refer to the Ecuadorian market. VigoStudio prices below are our US rates (in Ecuador, setup starts at $200 with the same plans). Prices change often; verify before signing.
What nobody tells you: Meta's cost is separate
Every serious chatbot runs on the official WhatsApp Business API, and Meta charges per conversation started, regardless of which provider you use. In Ecuador it's roughly $0.03 to $0.08 per conversation depending on type (marketing, utility or service). A business with 500 conversations a month pays Meta an extra $15 to $40. If a provider tells you "there's no Meta cost", they're either using WhatsApp Web with an unofficial hack (which Meta blocks without warning) or it's bundled into a pricier plan. Always ask.
Option 1: international platforms (you set it up)
SaaS tools with a visual flow editor. You pay a subscription and build the bot yourself. Upside: cheap to start and no dependency on anyone. Downside: hours of learning, support in English or by ticket, and generative AI is usually an add-on.
| Platform | From | Best for | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wati | $49/mo | SMEs with low-medium volume, simple catalog | Pricing scales badly past 5,000 conversations |
| ManyChat | $80/mo (WhatsApp) | Businesses already on Instagram/Messenger | Priced per active contact, climbs fast |
| Kommo | $15-45/user/mo | Sales teams wanting CRM + WhatsApp | Official API requires the Advanced plan ($45/user) |
| Landbot | $120/mo | Complex flows with forms | Expensive for typical Ecuadorian volume |
Verdict: a good option if someone on your team has the time and will to learn, and your case is simple (FAQ, hours, data capture). If you need inventory integration, real appointment booking or AI that understands open questions, the cost in your own hours quickly outweighs the savings.
Option 2: Ecuadorian agencies with monthly plans
Local providers that implement and operate the bot for you, with Spanish-language support on Ecuadorian hours. They charge monthly (sometimes plus setup). The ones with public pricing on Google:
| Provider | Model | Published price | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Nova (Quito) | Monthly on GoHighLevel | $169 / $259 / $369 per month + $290 setup (free with 6-month commitment) | CRM + WhatsApp + chatbot; AI only on the Full plan |
| Vengala Studio | Setup + monthly | From $700 + $120/mo | WooCommerce stores with real-time inventory, generative AI |
| AndesIA (QuitoWeb) | Monthly | From $49/mo | Virtual receptionist: bookings and payments for service businesses |
| Agile Business | One-time basic | From $70 | Simple bots, high volume of small clients |
| Maiatesta | One-time basic | From $60 | FAQ + data capture, no AI |
Verdict: the $150-$370 monthly range is the standard in Quito and Guayaquil for a third-party-operated bot with CRM. Over 12 months that's $1,800 to $4,400 a year, every year. It makes sense if you value not dealing with anything and you use the included CRM. The $60-$70 one-time bots are rule-based: they answer menus, they don't understand questions. Fine to start, not to sell.
Option 3: custom AI chatbot, plans from $20/month
This is where we come in, so we'll say it transparently. At VigoStudio we implement ISSA CRM AI, our chatbot on Meta's official API, with conversational AI that understands open questions and connects to your system (hotel PMS, catalog, booking calendar). Setup is paid once and the monthly plan scales with your volume — not with seat count or "premium features".
- Setup: from $400, one-time. Includes flow design, official API connection, training the AI on your information, and testing.
- Starter plan: from $20/month, and it includes a basic online store so the bot sells from your catalog instead of just answering.
- Mid-size companies: integrations (inventory, PMS, bookings) and higher conversation volume get a custom quote. Meta's cost is separate, same as everyone.
Where it already runs: Cielo Verde Lodge (boutique hotel in Cotacachi — the bot checks real availability in the PMS and answers in seconds) and Cotrifronsur (a cooperative in Huaquillas). Real cases, not demos.
Verdict (yes, about us): among the cheapest options in the table in year one and the cheapest every year after, and the only one with an online store included in the base plan. Right for entrepreneurs who want to sell on WhatsApp without paying $150+ a month, and for businesses that need real integration with their operation. Not right if you'd rather build and control the bot yourself: a SaaS platform gives you more configuration freedom.
12-month total cost comparison
For a typical business with ~500 conversations a month (Meta cost ≈ $25/mo in every case):
| Option | Year 1 | Year 2 | Your time |
|---|---|---|---|
| SaaS platform ($49-80/mo) | $900-1,260 | $900-1,260 | High: you configure it |
| Local agency ($169-369/mo + setup) | $2,300-4,700 | $2,000-4,400 | Low |
| VigoStudio ISSA CRM AI ($400 + from $20/mo) | from $940 | from $540 | Low |
Compare fairly: the $49 SaaS plan includes neither AI nor a store; the $169 agency includes a CRM. Compare what you need, not just the number.
How to choose: 5 questions before you sign
- Does it use the official WhatsApp Business API? A vague answer means automated WhatsApp Web. Meta blocks it and you lose the number.
- Does the bot understand questions or just menus? Ask for a demo with a badly written, colloquial question. A rule-based bot breaks; an AI one answers.
- Does it connect to my system? Inventory, bookings, CRM. If the bot doesn't know whether you have stock, it's just an answering machine.
- What happens when the customer wants a human? It must hand off with context, not restart the conversation.
- What happens to the price when I grow? Ask what the plan costs with twice the conversations or twice the users. Many "from" prices triple by month two.
If you're still not sure what a chatbot is and what it can do for your business, start with this basic guide. And if you already know you need one and want to know which of the three options fits your case, write to us: we'll tell you even if the answer is "use Wati".
